Solar calculator
Residential, commercial & industrial or a ground plant. Size it from the electricity bill, see the price line by line with GST, take off the PM Surya Ghar subsidy, then 25 years of payback — with a loan EMI if you need one.
Indicative estimate from the free EPCoffice calculator, epcoffice.com/calculator. The final price comes after a site survey. The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is paid by MNRE into the consumer's bank after the plant is inspected.
How the solar calculator works
- Tell it the bill, the units or the size
Pick residential, commercial & industrial or a ground plant. From the monthly bill it takes off the fixed charge, divides by your rate per unit and sizes the system for the sunshine at the place — 4 to 5 units per kW a day in most of India.
- Read the price line by line
Panels, inverter, structure, cables, labour and the net meter at 2026 market rates. Type your own rate per kW, or tap the tag and type a ₹ total. GST is written out in rupees: 5% on 70% of the price and 18% on the other 30%. The PM Surya Ghar subsidy comes off at the end.
- See when the money comes back
25 years of savings with a tariff that rises, panels that age, upkeep and one inverter change, with or without a loan EMI. Download it as a PDF or share it on WhatsApp.
Solar system price in India, 2026
What the calculator above gives at its starting rates, with an elevated GI structure and GST included. Units and payback are for 4.8 units per kW a day (Jaipur) and a ₹8 tariff rising 3% a year. An installer's price depends on the roof, the brands and the distance, so type their rates above to check a quotation.

Paid by MNRE into the consumer's bank account after the DISCOM inspects the plant, and only for made-in-India (DCR) panels from a registered vendor. The scheme runs until 31 March 2027. Some states add their own top-up: type it in the calculator under Price.
What customers ask about rooftop solar
Plain answers to the questions installers hear in every client's living room. The numbers come from the calculator above.
Back to the calculatorHow much does a 3 kW solar system cost in India in 2026?
At 2026 market rates a 3 kW rooftop system with made-in-India (DCR) panels costs about ₹2,13,889 with GST. The PM Surya Ghar subsidy of ₹78,000 brings it down to about ₹1,35,889. With imported-cell (non-DCR) panels and no subsidy it is about ₹1,87,552. The final price depends on the roof, the structure height and the brands, and is fixed after a site survey.
How much subsidy will I get under PM Surya Ghar?
₹30,000 a kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third: ₹30,000 for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW and ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more, which is the most a house gets. A housing society or RWA gets ₹18,000 a kW for common areas, up to 500 kW. It is paid into your bank account after the plant is inspected, and only for made-in-India (DCR) panels.
What size solar system do I need for my electricity bill?
Take the fixed charge off the bill and divide by your rate per unit to get the units you use, then divide by what 1 kW makes in a month: about 120 to 145 units in most of India. A ₹3,000 bill at ₹8 a unit is about 356 units a month, which needs a 2.5 kW system in Jaipur. The calculator does this for you when you pick Monthly bill.
Why is GST on a solar system 8.9%?
Since 22 September 2025 a solar system supplied and installed under one contract is taxed as 70% goods at 5% and 30% service at 18%. That is 3.5% + 5.4% = 8.9% of the price before GST. On a ₹2,00,000 system the GST is ₹7,000 + ₹10,800 = ₹17,800. The calculator shows both parts in rupees, in the price and in the PDF.
What are DCR panels, and do I need them?
DCR (Domestic Content Requirement) panels use solar cells made in India. PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM pay subsidy only on DCR panels, so choosing With subsidy uses them by itself. They cost more, about ₹27 a watt against ₹19 for non-DCR panels at 2026 rates, so homes without the subsidy and most businesses buy non-DCR panels.
Can I take a loan for rooftop solar, and what will the EMI be?
Yes. Under PM Surya Ghar, public sector banks give collateral-free loans for home systems at about 7% for up to 10 years; ask your bank for today's rate and limit. Turn on Loan in the calculator and type the share on loan, the interest and the years: it shows the EMI and whether the saving covers it. For a 3 kW home with the subsidy, 80% on loan at 7% for 10 years is an EMI of about ₹1,987 a month, while the system saves about ₹3,504 a month in the first year.
